The Wound That Became the Work™

Meet Our Founder

Chaplain Kelvin Foster

Some callings are chosen. Others are forged.

For more than 30 years, Chaplain Kelvin Foster has served where people experience life’s hardest moments as a firefighter/EMT, United States Navy Hospital Corpsman, Veterans Benefits Administration Case Manager, hospital chaplain, disaster spiritual care leader, and peer support advocate.

But the foundation of Presence Works LLC™ was built long before those roles.

Growing up in a home marked by trauma, adversity, and instability, Kelvin learned firsthand how deeply emotional wounds shape the way people think, feel, and connect with others. Years later, after serving through critical incidents, disasters, mass casualty events, and caring for first responders and veterans, he recognized a powerful truth:

The same invisible wounds he carried were affecting countless firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS professionals, dispatchers, nurses, chaplains, and helping professionals.

Rather than allowing those experiences to define him, he allowed them to become his life’s mission.

Following the 2022 mass shooting at the Tops Friendly Market in Buffalo, New York, conversations with first responders reinforced what had become impossible to ignore: while agencies train relentlessly to save lives, few prepare responders for carrying the emotional weight of the calls they cannot change.

That realization led to the creation of Presence Works LLC™ and the development of the PRESENCE™ Framework and the ATTUNE™ Modality practical, evidence-informed approaches that help first responders and helping professionals regulate themselves, build meaningful connection, support one another, and foster resilience before, during, and after critical incidents.

His philosophy is simple:

The wound became the work.

And today, that work is helping those who spend their lives helping others.

Healing Begins with Presence™

He later served veterans as a VBA Case Manager and spent three years as a peer support volunteer in a VA Hospice seeing the irreplaceable healing power of safety, connection, and compassionate presence.

Chaplain Foster carries an ACEs score of nine and a personal diagnosis of Complex PTSD. His own journey through trauma and post-traumatic growth is the lived foundation beneath every principle in the PRESENCE™ and ATTUNE™ frameworks.
